Random Stuff

Daily Ramblings, General November 14th, 2006 @ 1718h

Damn, I’ve gone and DONE IT! Everything shall start tomorrow. Will need your help Zenden ;)

Went to install Vista Transformation Pack and now the desktop looks as Vista-like as it can be. Looks pretty good to me. Guess I’ll be using this look until I get Vista next year.

WARNING: If you want to istall that, be sure to follow all instructions to the letter or your system will die.

DVR+R DL discs are so freaking expensive. One disc with a jewel case from Imation costs $8. Almost daylight robbery. I haven’t seen them in spindles yet. I think that would be worth getting.

… maybe I’ll post more random stuff later.

EDIT:
I’ve completed some basic tagging feature of the tagboard. You can already find Zenden’s and Sleep’s tagboard online. If you want one too, ask me for it ;)

With this, I can declare this version a “mini-milestone”. You can download it here. No instructions provided. Figure out yourself. This is still Alpha. Gosh, it might even be pre-alpha!

Goodies Post

Interesting Stuff, Movies November 11th, 2006 @ 2214h

Went to watch Sinking of Japan/Japan Sinks/日本沈没 today. You can call it The Day After Tomorrow with improved effects. It’s basically an average movie for me with no “wow” factors. The subplot of the love between the main characters is hardly developed! The ending was kind of corny too. “Everyone lives happily ever after.”

The first “goodie” I bring to you is a preview of the tagboard I’m working on. You can find a link to it. Currently, you can only browse the tags - you can’t post any tags yet. Those tags are from the former tagboard at Zenden Lee’s blog. In the next preview, there should be posting access plus a new black and white colour scheme perhaps.

A while ago, another friend and I sent in a video for the Mediacorp Roving DV competition. Basically, we are supposed to come up with a “student news report” and send that in. It was aired today at 9.30 pm on Channel 5 News and 10 pm on CNA news. For those who missed it, here’s a video: (I’ll upload the version with the “additional overlay text” that Mediacorp added in at a later time)

EDIT:
I did a “grey” colour scheme and aren’t exactly satisfied with it yet:

EDIT 2:
You can find the news article that goes with our video here or here.

University Panel Discussion

General October 28th, 2006 @ 2204h

Woke up early today, on a Saturday morning, to go to school to attend a boring and useless talk about university admission. The speakers from the various universities weren’t that good except for the one from SMU. The only good thing is probably the bag of information booklets they gave us. And it is through them that I think I have finally decided on the course of study. If I could, I would love to do a double degree on Physics and some other engineering. NTU has a course that offers this. Of course, if I could get a scholarship, I would rather go overseas to study.

In other news, I’ve released a new version of my thumbnail generating class. You might want to take a look at that. Fixed some bugs, wrote a new documentation.

You can now generate your own thumbnails easily with this tool. Enjoy!

More Lessons

Daily Ramblings, School October 16th, 2006 @ 2151h

After the exams… we still have lessons. At this moment, I’m not in the mood of doing any studies-related work totally. Oh well, I still have to figure out the Probability tutorial by thursday.

We got back our 16PF analysis today. Interestingly, it’s pretty accurate. Apparnetly, I have almost no creativity (which I agree) and very reserved and private. The career options that I am recommended seem to fit my interests as well - physics, math etc. The only thing is… why am I recommended to be a farmer?!

In other news, I’ve managed to come up with some prototype interfaces of my latest “project”. I know some of you will exclaim it closely resembles that of Wordpress - I know that because I modelled it after Wordpress’s design. Can’t blame me for that can you - I’ve got no creativity.

Anyway, here’s some screens for you to preview:

New Tagboard

Coding October 9th, 2006 @ 2109h

I’ve began coding a new tagboard in my free time which will probably be Spam Free (integrated with Askimet) and has AJAX functionality. That is a huge plan! And indeed, I do wonder if I can even complete it or not… Once completed, if I know you, you could ask me to let you try it out on your blog ;)

Features/Miscellanies Planned:

  • SPAM protection - with Askimet integration (you will need an API key for this)
  • One codebase, many tagboards - perfect for hosting!
  • MySQL powered
  • PHP 5 only!
  • AJAX Powered a.k.a. refreshless browsing
  • Minor Visual Effects powered by script.aculo.us
  • Importer from 3.02 BETA (the one Zenden Lee is using at the moment)
  • Seamless integration with webpages

Regarding what I can show you now, I’m afraid there isn’t much except for the screenshots below depicting the current number of code files and the pathetic lines of code.

The Tagboard

Uncategorized July 18th, 2006 @ 2118h

If you are interested in getting the ancient code of zenden’s tagboad, you can grab it here. It’s “officially known as” “Plottable Tagboard Systems 3.02 BETA”. No longer updated and no longer supported. Have fun with it ;)

Death Note Text

Anime & Manga July 8th, 2006 @ 0250h

I was bored. So I made this little script to generate text using some Death Note fonts that can be found at deathgod.org.

Example:

Anyway, to use, just put an image link to “http://www.domain.kefi.org/deathnote/text/your-text.png”. Remember to put the “.png” at the back or it won’t work!
