Blog Paths Moved

Site October 8th, 2007 @ 2220h

If you have noticed, URLs to all the pages have now been stripped of the directory “wordpress” in them, including the home page. I thought the URLs look prettier without the word in them.

Anyway, redirections are in place to redirect the old links to their new links. While I expect this redirection to be permanent, please do update your bookmarks, if any, to point to the main page without the “wordpress” directory.

Technical details follow:
I haven’t figured out how to do any redirections for URLs pointing to “wordpress/” to redirect to “/”. (I’m currently hard-coding it into a “index.php” file under “/wordpress”.) Any ideas to edit the following “.htaccess” residing under “/wordpress” would be welcome. :D

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /wordpress/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule (.*) /$1 [L,R]
</IfModule>

Back with a new Skin

Daily Ramblings, School, Site October 5th, 2007 @ 2138h

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for letting this blog sink into the abyss of desolation for a while. I simply lost any interest in blogging and I guess this happens quite frequently. But now, I’m back.

Anyway, I have upgraded Wordpress to the latest version and finally, WordPress supports tags.

Today was effectively the last day of school for my JC life. I think I will miss those days of having lessons in the future but for now, I’m not feeling particularly sad or any sense of loss, because I know we will continue to keep in touch with each other :)

Anyway, I’m bad at writing emotions-related post so I’ll stop here. The previous paragraph sound kind of cheesy though…

The Matches

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff, School, Site May 19th, 2007 @ 1434h

I haven’t blogged for a while. If you’ve noticed, I’ve just changed the site design. It’s called Redoable and is kinda cool. And since there was a new version of Wordpress being released (2.2), I thought it might be a good chance to do a mini-revamp now. Some minor problems with the theme though they should be solved soon.

It was kind of sad that VJ soccer boys lost to RJC yesterday. I’m sure they’ve tried their best and let’s hope they can at least win the third title.

There were some people from Millenia Institute yesterday at the above mentioned match who sat at our side and decided to jeer and create trouble during the match. At the end, some of the male teachers who were there and some ex-victorians went ahead and gave them a piece of their minds. I’ve been reading this person’s blog recently regarding the students from the school he teachers. Coupled with the recent posts about the “parents’ letter” issue, I wonder what the hell our education system is moulding us into.

This morning at Jalan Besar stadium, our soccer girls managed to win TJ 1-0 to get into the finals. Good job girls! The goal was pretty cool. A long range shot. I’ve just realized that even though the stadium is relatively nearer form my house than any other places, it still would have taken me 15 minutes to walk there. Add the blazing sun into the formula and… you get the picture.

I’m sure that for most of us who went down to CCAB yesterday and for those that went to the stadium to support today were not thinking about half-days or full-days when we were cheering for them to win. Those who are seriously do not get the point. It was more of school spirit that drove me to support them in addition to reasons like our class were supposed to go and because Jalan Besar stadium is so near my house.

There was this lack of spirit for Dunman High and I could feel more of it here. Time passes really fast and it is six more months before we are out of the school and into world of National Service. I hope I can still remember my time here vividly when the time comes.

Now, time to start work on the stacks of things I plan to do. Any one has extra time to sell? I’ll buy them!

Upgrading Blog

Site January 23rd, 2007 @ 1636h

Currently in the process of upgrading this blog to Wordpress 2.1. Please bear with the dusts or any errors you encounter.

EDIT: Update complete. This new version is pretty cool. They’ve finally added some administrative features that are annoyingly missing for a long time.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

General, Site, Wishlist December 21st, 2006 @ 2204h

I took a trip down to my aunt’s place at Clementi today (which is almost at the other end of Singapore from where I live) to take a look at my cousin’s PC, which was apparently not working. (It turns out that it was because the video card was loose.)

Anyway, while I was walking from the MRT station to her house, I passed by some places that gave me some kind of a feeling of nostalgia. I used to live with my aunt when I about 4 I think. Walking through those places really made me feel how quickly 10+ years have passed.

My cousin had an operation on her knees (because of reasons I can’t remember) and can’t walk around. So she had to stay at home everyday for a few weeks until she can walk fully again. She just returned from working in New York.

She lent me the box set of Lord of the Rings Extended DVD which she bought at only USD 40+! I was simply amazed! Damn, I want to get my hands on this box set for myself! It’s sold at (I think) nearly SGD 200 at shops locally!

On a side note, my recent attempts at combating SPAM bots seemed to have worked. I now use two plugins for this purpose: Bad Behaviour to block any spam bots from sucking my bandwidth try (i.e. blocking their access) and Akismet to filter any comments that bots which has passed through the first layer of defence post.

Somehow, this seemed to have worked to a pretty large extent - only 6 spam posts in two days compared to the 30+ per day from before!

Anyway I’ve added some form of advertisement on the site, powered by Adsense. I would call it a subtle way of placing it because you only see it if you view the posts on its own page. (i.e. when you click on the post title link.) I wonder how much I can earn by placing it like this. We shall see.

New Domain Version 6.5

Site December 19th, 2006 @ 2129h

I’ve decided to change the themes again, to one that adheres to the the recent web 2.0 trends in blog designing. The main page looks cleaner too I think, with less clutter and stuff. With this, I launch version 6.5 of the site.

Anyway, for those of you who misses the old design, which I still like, you can change the theme using the drop down list at the bottom of the page or at the side of the page, depending on the theme you are at. Any problems? Just tag at the tagboard or comment somewhere and I’ll try to fix them.

And I promise to clean up some pages (like the glaring awfully outdated coding page) ASAP!

Anyway, I’ve moved my feed over to FeedBurner to track feed stats. It’s kinda cool.

Version 6.1 and Tagboard

Site November 25th, 2006 @ 2232h

I’ve finally ditched the old skin that I’ve grown so tired of and added a new skin. This skin is called Gray Gets Green.

At the same time, I’ve added the tagboard to the blog using an experimental format that is different from the ones you see at CS’s and XL’s blog. Still needs some tweaking though… Hmm…

And I finally got my hair cut.

Stats

Site November 4th, 2006 @ 2000h

I was bored.

So I took a look at the stats Google Analytics collected and thought you might find them interesting. (The stats do not include my browsing; click on the thumbnails for full view)

General Stats:

Browser
Some people (*hints to Mr. NXL*) just don’t want to switch browsers and make my life easier.

Resolution
The blog should be viewable in 800 x 600 and above. Though I recommend 1024 x 768. I use 1280 x 1024 myself.

IE Problem Fixed

Site September 28th, 2006 @ 2210h

For those of you who have been unable to view the site these few days because of some “Operation Aborted” error in Internet Explorer, you might want to know that I’ve fixed the problem.

The problem had to do with this post and is because of some weird Internet Explorer bug.

“S” & “S”

Books, Site September 8th, 2006 @ 2141h

The first “s” goes to SPAM.

spam.png

SPAMMERS are getting more and more relentless, and long winded as well. What you see in the above screenshot is only 25% of the length of a single SPAM comment.

The second “s” is for shopping; well, I didn’t shop much anyway because I already what I wanted in mind. Xiang Long and I went around Orchard and finally Bugis looking for his bag,

Call me a fanboy or whatever you like - I’ve just bought the first six books of the Dark Towers series and placed $100 into Stephen King’s pocket. (Book VII and The Stand coming soon!)
