Maintaining a Life

Daily Ramblings, Movies, Music February 8th, 2008 @ 1229h

It’s rather hard to maintain a so-called life. Weekends are rushed and you can only go out so many times and when in camp, you basically do the basic routine over everyday. Still I’ve managed to watch a few good movies lately. I haven’t really seen much movies lately that I can safely say was money was spent.

First up was Atonement. It’s basically a tragedy kind of story and since it was rated M18, it was my first M18 show. Honestly, I think it didn’t really warrant that rating - a NC-16 would have been sufficient anyway. The soundtrack was pretty unique and was excellent. It used the sound made by those ancient typewriters as part of the music.

Next up was Kite Runner based on the novel of the same title. The story is great but I think the novel does the story more justice. You miss out certain important elements like characters’ thoughts which obviously cannot be put on screen.

On a side note, I finally managed to achieve a sub-ten 2.4 km run timing - 9:52 =)

Raw Raw Fight the Power!

Anime & Manga, Music November 8th, 2007 @ 1745h

Shucks, I am hooked and addicted to this rap. It’s kind of catchy and I can’t stop listening to it while pouring over my economics notes.

And so I present four variants to the rap and the lyrics. keke. (This post is mainly for my own reference to the lyrics.)

-Hook
do the impossible
see the invisible
raw! raw!
fight the power!

touch the untouchable
break the unbreakable
raw! raw!
fight the power!

what you gonna do is what you wanna do
just break the rule, then you see the truth
this is the theme of “G” coming through baby!
raw! raw!
fight the power!

-Verse1
power to the peeps, power for the dream
still missing piece scattering, so incomplete
we be the most incredible soldier from underground
see how easy, they all fall down
digging to the core to see the light
Let’s get out of here babe, that’s the way to survive
top of the head, I’m on the set
do the impossible, don’t you wanna bet?
cuz, a lot of things changed, we be waiting in vain

if you wanna get by, no pain no gain
wow! fakers wanna test me again
(damn! suckers wanna test me again)
sorry, my rhyme’s gonna snatch your brain
we gonna make it happen with the crazy rap
(I’m still starving for the straight up shit)
we gonna make it happen with the crazy rap skill (shit)
get ready to rumble, now is the time
if you don’t know, now you know

(good luck fellows! ha ha)

-Hook

-Verse2
2nd verse dedicates to the real peeps
what we got to say is so real thing
(what we got to say is damn real thing)
cuz, revolution ain’t never gonna televise
kicking the mad flow, microphone phenotype
(kicking the dope shit, microphone phenotype)
open your third eye, seeing through the overground
I’m mabout to hit you with the scream from the underground
whole city is covered with the cyber flavor
“G” is in your area, one of the toughest enigma

-Hook

“Libera Me” From Hell

Anime & Manga, Daily Ramblings, Music October 26th, 2007 @ 1709h

How does a rap song coupled with an opera/female soprano sound?

I’m pretty sick of studying now and the title is a definite reflection of how I feel. (I think it means “liberate me from hell”. Probably latin.)

Orders have Arrived!

Anime & Manga, Music October 17th, 2007 @ 1121h

They are finally here! This is probably the second time I’ve ordered something via online and I think I seriously need to get a debit card or something. I can’t always ask others for favours. I’m lazy to get one because that entails conversion of my bank account to become signature based, something which I am not comfortable with, yet.

Anyway, I pre-ordered this at the end of September and it finally arrived on Monday. The item is in pretty good condition though it took a little long for them to “source from their suppliers”. The shipping took one week which I guess was alright, since I didn’t need to pay any shipping fee.

Acoustic Music

Anime & Manga, Movies, Music October 10th, 2007 @ 1745h

For some of us, at least for me, we can’t listen to songs with lyrics when trying to memorise facts of which Economics is the worst culprit of them all. The lyrics just distract me from memorising. So, I turn to acoustic music, that is music without lyrics, that usually come in the form of soundtracks.

My interests in soundtracks can be traced back to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack which I have already written to death here. For those who want to know though, the third Return of the King Complete Recordings is going to be released in the midst of our A-Levels on November 6. For some kind souls who have spare cash, please consider a Christmas gift for me with all three complete recordings :D

So far, there has only been five “entertainment” (mixture of movies, TV Show and anime) that has wow’d me with their soundtracks:
- Lord of the Rings (duh!)
- Lost
- Eureka seveN
- Death Note
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Of course, there is also the once in a while song or two that sounds good but these are my top five in no order. As again, here are some of my selected songs for your listening pleasure. A mix of upbeat, majestic and soft music.

Well, in case you were wondering about the seemingly music themed entries nowadays, let’s just say that I’m in this mood right now to write these kind of posts.

FLOW

Music October 6th, 2007 @ 2038h

A special post on a band. I might post more on some other artists/bands that I listen to often.

Flow is a Japanese band featuring two vocalists. I don’t think they are that famous outside of Japan because a quick browse through HMV today didn’t yield any albums by FLOW at the J-pop section. Anime watchers might recognise some of their works being used in series like Naruto (*shudder*).

What I like about their music is the fact that there are two vocalists. They take turns singing various verses of the songs and even though I don’t really understand 90% of what they are singing, the dynamics between the two vocalists seem to make the songs sound better. With reference to lyrics and translations, the songs make more sense and you can really feel the song.

Their songs are generally of a cheerful tune and are pretty catchy, much like Wu Yue Tian, a Taiwanese band. You could probably say I dislike hard metal music with lots of screaming and stuff.

Here are a few of my favourite songs that you could try listening to, if you please.
