Flying off to California

Daily Ramblings, General June 8th, 2007 @ 2058h

For those of you who don’t know, I’ll be going to California (more specifically, Silicon Valley) from the 16th to the 24th of June. I’m going with a three more friends from VJ and as part of an IDA Infocomm Club study trip.

One bad thing about the timing of the trip is that Common Test begins exactly one day after we return to Singapore. That means some inevitable mugging on the plane.

Since I have nothing else to blog about I thought it was time I wrote about this.

On Being Down

General May 1st, 2007 @ 2129h

Not in the best of moods now. i feel like I really have no life. i am cooped up at home on a pleasant public holiday with no one to go out with nor anywhere to go. Everyone already has plans, but I don’t. Not like I had the time nor energy to make them. Those who don’t, say “see first” and never get back to me.

I guess I shall remain cooped up in my lonely existence with nothing but the bloody PC to face.

Trojan Scare and Elusive Teacher

General March 24th, 2007 @ 2255h

Apparently, one of the computers at V26 is infected with a trojan/worm that spreads through thumb drives. It loads itself into your thumb drive and set itself to autorun whenever your thumb drive is inserted into another PC, infecting it. It seems to be Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.auk.

It was lucky Vista had that autoplay dialog box asking if you want to autorun anything. Otherwise I might have gotten infected. Cleared them out and all’s clean.

In other news, while we were trying to distribute some papers to the pigeon-holes of various teachers, we just couldn’t find a certain teacher’s pigeon-hole. And guess what, the teacher’s name was hidden behind some envelope he placed over his pigeon-hole. How elusive.

Emotionally Unstable

Is this a good sign?

I don’t know, just being a little bit emo right now. Cause and reason unknown. Will probably get better.

Web 2.0 and You

General February 4th, 2007 @ 2057h

A great video about the main social aspects of Web 2.0. It didn’t really mention much about AJAX though. A great video.

Firefox Memory Leak?

General February 2nd, 2007 @ 2334h

It just suddenly happened. I was caught unawares. Firefox decided it needed to eat up all my RAM and suddenly, behold for all my RAM was eaten up by Firefox (it took up about 1.5 GB of RAM.

I didn’t have the chance to take the screenshot with Firefox process in it though. A pity. Is this a memory leak? Or perhaps a software bug? I don’t know. It has happened only once though. We shall see.

PC Dead

General January 13th, 2007 @ 1214h

My PC is dead. Officially dead. In the hardware sense. I can’t tell which part of the PC is not working.

Time to get a life offline.(In fact I already do have one =P)

Microsoft Word 2007 Bibliography Tool

General January 9th, 2007 @ 1810h

I remember the old times when doing PW that I had to write and compile the bibliography of the lengthy written report. It was a chore writing them in the correct format AND re-arranging them alphabetically.

And now, I have to do the same thing again for the overdue “Economics Year-end Research Assignment”. This time, Microsoft Word saved me loads of effort.

I fire it up, click on the “References” tab, click on the “Manage Sources” button and from there I can simply add in the sources I used.

Click on “bibliography” and there, I have a nicely formatted Bibliography all arranged and formatted nicely.

I wished I had this tool last year. Now back to writing that report.

Year 2007 Resolutions

General January 1st, 2007 @ 1955h

I think it seems more apt to write about what you want to achieve for the year 2007 in a post on the first day of the year.

  • NAPFA Gold

Seems a bit overkill to me but I think it’s time I try to aim for that. Working hard now.

  • Finish up the tagboard which never seemed to be completed for its previous incarnations.
  • Create a sort of “ultimate” web 2.0 framework for any portal like sites. (In process)
  • Achieve 4 As and at least a Merit for H3 in A-levels. (This means a lot of hard work…)

That should probably be enough. For now.

Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.
