Surviving the Field Camp

Books, Daily Ramblings, Music February 16th, 2008 @ 2042h

Imagine six days out there in the jungle with camouflage cream on you face 24 hours a day, eating combat rations and being ill throughout. I went in coughing and since the jungle wasn’t the best place for recovery, I came out with more cough and a blocked nose of mucus/phlegm. For those who have not been through the camp, I would advise you to take care of yourself and try NOT to fall sick during the period of time. You will cough in the middle of the night and this makes it hard to even sleep. Spice it up with some night “events”, I ended up being so tired that I could fall asleep in the middle of cleaning up my M16.

But I survived! :)

On a side note, I purchased what seems to be my first novel in a long time: Kite Runner. It’s worth a read if anyone needs any reading material.

The Children of Húrin

Books September 25th, 2006 @ 0121h

A previous incomplete work of the Middle-Earth saga by JRR Tolkein, The Children of Húrin, has been completed by his son ^^

As some of you may, or may not, know that I am a LoTR fanatic, I’m definitely going to get this book.

A rather unexpected publication.

The Pool

Books, General, School September 22nd, 2006 @ 2021h

Went swimming today and I was expecting the pool to be pretty much empty on a cloudy Friday afternoon, that is today if you ken. Not until did I reach the entrance of the swimming complex did I see a bunch of primary school kids, boys to be exact, from St Michael’s hanging out, apparently after a supposed-excursion-to-the-pool. I went in to see even MORE kids. Gosh. There goes the quiet pool.

The exams are coming. Are you prepared? Are you ready?

Long days and pleasant nights!

Certainly… either Singnet/Singapore’s ISP had some cock up or MSN servers are having some problems. The problem is, none of us could sign in to Messenger. You could do it with Web Messenger but not with the client itself.

What’s wrong?

EDIT:

Accoding to mess.be, do the following to fix the problem:

just put the following lines in your hosts file:

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

“S” & “S”

Books, Site September 8th, 2006 @ 2141h

The first “s” goes to SPAM.

spam.png

SPAMMERS are getting more and more relentless, and long winded as well. What you see in the above screenshot is only 25% of the length of a single SPAM comment.

The second “s” is for shopping; well, I didn’t shop much anyway because I already what I wanted in mind. Xiang Long and I went around Orchard and finally Bugis looking for his bag,

Call me a fanboy or whatever you like - I’ve just bought the first six books of the Dark Towers series and placed $100 into Stephen King’s pocket. (Book VII and The Stand coming soon!)

The Pool

Books, General September 6th, 2006 @ 2143h

Xl and Zenden went mugging on the topic of “1 ball hit[tting] the other ball, would it stay put, roll back, or move together”.

We did that too! (Cl, Gerald and Kelvin Ho) Albeit this time, it wasn’t balls hitting each other, it was bodies swimming against water resistance - the Swimming Pool!

After that, we went to the post office to send a parcel of mass ~800g off to the US (no prize for guessing who sent it and who was the recepient) and it costed a frgging 30+ dollars just to send that small parcel! Goodness gracious!

Finished reading the 699 pages long Wizard and Glass; on with Wolves of the Calla!

A pretty long post awaits.

Woke up to the sound of my mobile’s alarm at 8 am. That omnipresent “beep beep beep”.

On the way to school, the bus (31) I was on almost had a head-on collision with a turning lorry at a junction. The bus was travelling very fast, probably above the speed limit for buses and probably trying to beat the red light. At the junction, as a lorry was attempting to turn (or going forward; I can’t tell, for that matter), the bus almost collided with it.

The tale doesn’t end here. The bus driver, probably recovering from the shock of that near-accident, began driving at turtle speed and MISSED the bus stop which a few VJ people and I were supposed to get off. In case you were wondering, the “BUS STOPPING” sign was glowing red. And thus began my slogging to the school with my mind somewhat still in dream land.

Screwed

Books, School August 23rd, 2006 @ 1936h

One word to describe the Chemistry Lecture Assessment - screwed. Absolutely, not relatively, screwed. (I will elaborate this more later.)

Anyway, I’ve decided to buy the Dark Tower Series =) Gosh, I have become a hopeless fanboy. Halfway through the series. 4 more books to go!

There are some stuff I want to write, but they are not for the public’s eyes… So the next time you see a post requiring a password, ask me on MSN for it and I might give it to you if you are the intended reader.

My Understanding of the Truth

My Understanding of the Truth
by John “Jake” Chambers

The gunslinger is the truth
Roland is the truth
The Prisoner is the truth
The Lady of Shadows is the truth
The Prisoner and the Lady of shadows are married. That is the truth.
The way station is the truth.
There were monsters under the mountain. That is the truth.
One of them had an Amoco gas pump between his legs and was pretending it was his penis. That is the truth. Roland let me die. That is the truth.
I still love him.
That is the truth.
When is a door not a door? When it’s a jar, and that is the truth.
Blaine is the truth.
Blaine is the truth.
What has four wheels and flies? A garbage truck, and that is the truth.
Blaine is the truth.
You have to watch Blaine all the time, Blain is a pain and that is the truth.
What is black and white and red all over? A blushing zebra, and that is the truth. Blaine is the truth.
I want to go back and that is the truth.
I have to go back and that is the truth.
I’ll go crazy if i don’t go back and that is the truth.
I can’t go home again unless i find a stone a rose a door and that is the truth. Choo-choo, and that is the truth.
Choo-choo, choo choo.
Choo-choo, choo-choo, choo-choo.
Choo-choo, Choo-choo, Choo-Choo, Choo-choo.
I am afraid, and that is the truth.
Choo-choo.

The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed.

P.S.: If you don’t understand this, it’s alright.
