Blister Blister Blister

Daily Ramblings February 24th, 2008 @ 1027h

Blister ah, Blister ah, Blister, Blister; Blister ah, Blister ah, Blister, Blister. You say got blister, I also got blister. Actually everyone has blister, blister.

Been a tiring week. As you can probably infer from my opening “statement”, I’ve got blister all under my feet. I think I’ve walked/marched/ran more than 42 km this week (of course, not all at once).

One more week of packed programmes and it’s going to be more relaxed. March 11 is getting closer.

On a side note, there was a super long queue at Pasir Ris yesterday for the air show. I think the queue looped the MRT station exterior and White Sands several times. Crazy queue. On the other hand, I think I’ve watched my fair share of the air show from Pulau Tekong itself - they were flying overhead all the time and well, I managed to watch the show for free.

Surviving the Field Camp

Books, Daily Ramblings, Music February 16th, 2008 @ 2042h

Imagine six days out there in the jungle with camouflage cream on you face 24 hours a day, eating combat rations and being ill throughout. I went in coughing and since the jungle wasn’t the best place for recovery, I came out with more cough and a blocked nose of mucus/phlegm. For those who have not been through the camp, I would advise you to take care of yourself and try NOT to fall sick during the period of time. You will cough in the middle of the night and this makes it hard to even sleep. Spice it up with some night “events”, I ended up being so tired that I could fall asleep in the middle of cleaning up my M16.

But I survived! :)

On a side note, I purchased what seems to be my first novel in a long time: Kite Runner. It’s worth a read if anyone needs any reading material.

Maintaining a Life

Daily Ramblings, Movies, Music February 8th, 2008 @ 1229h

It’s rather hard to maintain a so-called life. Weekends are rushed and you can only go out so many times and when in camp, you basically do the basic routine over everyday. Still I’ve managed to watch a few good movies lately. I haven’t really seen much movies lately that I can safely say was money was spent.

First up was Atonement. It’s basically a tragedy kind of story and since it was rated M18, it was my first M18 show. Honestly, I think it didn’t really warrant that rating - a NC-16 would have been sufficient anyway. The soundtrack was pretty unique and was excellent. It used the sound made by those ancient typewriters as part of the music.

Next up was Kite Runner based on the novel of the same title. The story is great but I think the novel does the story more justice. You miss out certain important elements like characters’ thoughts which obviously cannot be put on screen.

On a side note, I finally managed to achieve a sub-ten 2.4 km run timing - 9:52 =)

Regarding Calls

Daily Ramblings February 2nd, 2008 @ 1825h

If anyone still reads this blog, please try not to call my phone if you can during weekdays. You will most likely be diverted to my home. Yes, even at night.

I don’t turn on my phone in the day and I don’t want to risk talking after lights out. Besides, sleep is precious =/

EDIT: Someone mistook this post as being a “I take no calls in army” kind of tone - that is not true lol. It’s just that the call timings are sometimes bad and they get diverted home and I am unable to answer them. That’s all.
